Introduction
Established in October, 1952, with after 70 years of development and expansion, the Library of East China University of Science & Technology (ECUST) which is directly under the Ministry of Education has become a modern and resourceful research library that has multi-disciplines collection featuring chemistry and chemical engineering among all other areas in science, engineering, management and liberal arts.
As a supporting part for education and scientific research in ECUST, the library is consisted of two parts in Xuhui Campus and Fengxian one, which occupies 34,000 square meters with more than 3500 seats. Our collection includes more than 3.5million print materials, around 290,000 copies of journals, 2.9 million electronic materials, over 80,000 e-journals and 107 domestic and foreign databases.
The library always keep introducing latest studies and information in introducing advanced technology and concept. In 2010, the library introduced radio frequency identification devices aka RFID，with which self-service of borrowing and returning has been achieved. In 2011, the library was the first in Shanghai to accomplish self-service circulation. During 2014 to 2017, the library installed seat management system, digital campus card and face recognition system based on the cloud technologies of Tencent and Alibaba.
As a subordinate department of the library, institute of science and technology information set up a master degree program which provides informatics and library science professional education. With the support of Shanghai E-literature Retrieval System for Graduate Student Centre, Shanghai International University Textbooks Centre and Online Learning Centre, students and faculties can get personal services besides regular information services. In terms of social services, the library has the qualifications of sci-tech novelty retrieval both in the Ministry of Education and Shanghai commission to serve the scientific research in the university and society. Based on the science and technology novelty search workstation of the Ministry of education, Intellectual Property Information Service Center of ECUST was established in 2018 and officially approved as the national intellectual property information service center in 2020. The center provides information services for the creativity, application, protection and management of intellectual property rights of the University, and also give full play to its social service function to provide intellectual property information services for technological innovation enterprises and local economic development.
